Dried bellflower is naturally bitter and plush in texture. This root is known to have medicinal properties and contains properties that are good for lung health. Dried bellflower root is often seasoned as a side dish. When storing dried bellflower root, store it in the fridge, freezer, or a cool dry place.
When prepping this dried ingredient, first soak the bellflower for 6 hours-overnight. The next day, strain the root from the water and add some coarse salt. Massage the bellflower with the salt for a few minutes to remove the bitter flavor and then wash with fresh cold water. Along with doing this, there are more ways to remove the bitter flavor from bellflower root before using it. You can blanch the bellflower root to remove more bitterness and if you plan to cook the bellflower root with liquid then I would recommend using rice water because it will remove some bitterness from the root and add some nutrients.
