Perilla leaves are large flat heart-shaped leaves. It is in the mint family and has an herbal mint flavor. They can be eaten raw or cooked. Shiso leaves can be a substitute for perilla leaves.
Perilla leaves can be stir-fried, used as a wrap for Korean BBQ, added as a garnish in soups, made into kimchi, added to kimbap, or pickled.
Before using these leaves, wash the leaves well and then trim the stem slightly if the stem is damaged.
