Dashida is a powdered soup base that you can add to water to make instant broth. It comes in a variety of flavors like veggie, anchovy, beef, clams, and seaweed. This powder contains MSG and seasons what it is added to. It is used to enhance the flavor of soups and or make instant broth. Adding too much MSG to your soup will result in an odd artificial umami flavor. Only add less than 1/8 tsp at a time and make sure to taste your soup before adding more. The point of MSG is not to season your food, it is meant to enhance the flavor. If your soup tastes bland after using MSG try adding more salt before adding more MSG.
It can be added to soup, kimchi, and broth-based dishes like steamed eggs. After opening this powder it is important to refrigerate or freeze it.
Dashida comes in other forms as well which work for certain flavored dishes.
- Anchovy or clam dashida should be used in soups/dishes with fish or seafood proteins.
- Beef dashida works best in dishes that contain proteins like beef and pork.

This is another brand of powdered broth enhancer called Gamchimi (감치미). This seafood-flavored one is used for seafood/fish-based dishes. They have other varieties also like mushrooms, which can be very versatile.
